Fatima Yousufi is an Afghan footballer, former captain of the Afghanistan Women’s Soccer National Team, and a passionate advocate for gender equality in sport. She began her journey in Afghanistan, where she broke barriers as a young athlete and rose to represent her country on the international stage. Following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, Fatima was forced to flee Afghanistan due to the risks she faced as a female athlete and public figure. She now lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she continues her mission to use sport as a platform for empowerment and change. Fatima is currently studying Sport Management and is committed to creating opportunities for girls, especially those from refugee and marginalized communities, to access sport, education, and leadership pathways. As a speaker and emerging leader, she shares her story to inspire resilience, amplify the voices of Afghan women, and advocate for a more inclusive and equitable future in sport and beyond.
