Georgiana Epure
Board Member
Georgiana Epure is a human rights practitioner and a gender justice advocate, with a background in international politics. She is an Aryeh Neier fellow at the Open Society Justice Initiative, where she works on human rights strategic litigation and advocacy on subjects ranging from economic justice to ensuring respect for human rights in national security operations. As the President of the Association for Liberty and Gender Equality, in Romania, she coordinates the organization’s advocacy work, with a focus on combatting violence against women, developing feminist cities, eliminating harassment in the workplace, and countering legislative attacks on gender equality.
Previously, Georgiana worked at the European External Action Service and the International Criminal Court. Prior to this, she was a research assistant at the European Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and the Intervention and International Society Research Cluster in the UK, where she researched regional and international responses to the human rights crises.
Georgiana is a Women Deliver Young Leaders alumna. She is a strong supporter of youth empowerment and has experience in teaching diverse groups of young people. With Professors without Borders, she has led courses on women’s rights and leadership for youth in Thailand and India.
Georgiana holds an MPhil degree in International Relations and Politics from the University of Cambridge, funded by the Gates Trust, and an MA degree in Social Science Research Methods from the University of Leeds, where she also completed her BA in International Relations as a valedictorian. Throughout her studies, the focus of her research was on responses to gross human rights violations, which led her to establish The Responsibility to Protect Student Journal, the first global student-led journal on accountability for and responses to mass atrocities, which she coordinated for five years.
