Francis Oko Armah Spoke on a Panel at the 35th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council

Oko Armah spoke on a panel during the Annual Full-Day Discussion on the Human Rights of Women at the UNHRC to discuss the widespread violence against women and various efforts undertaken to eliminate it. He touched upon the importance of male engagement, highlighting that men and boys can be powerful agents of change and beneficiaries towards a more, just, equal and inclusive societies to benefit all. The panel shared existing initiatives to promote non-violent positive masculinities, parenting/fatherhood involvement programs for young men and boys, and group education programs on gender roles within the family. The panel also received statements from other stakeholders on efforts to engage men and boys to eliminate all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls with a critical look at comprehensive sexuality in the broader discussion of advancing young people’s SRHR.
