Fiana Arbab

Transnational feminist organizer and advocate

Fiana (Syeda) Arbab is a Bangladeshi-Muslim-American transnational feminist organizer and advocate. She was most recently Oxfam International’s International Financial Institutions (IFIs) Policy Advisor on Gender Justice, holding the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) accountable to economic and social justice. Born in Japan and raised in the United States by first generation Bangladeshi parents, Fiana has spent her life fighting inequality and to transform material conditions for systematically marginalized peoples. She graduated with a Master of Global Affairs (MGA) from the University of Notre Dame, concentrating in Sustainable Development and minoring in International Peace Studies. As an undergraduate, Fiana was student body President of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Fiana has served as a racial justice and community organizer in several capacities across the United States, and is connected to activist circles in Michigan, Georgia, and Indiana. She is a founding member of several Michigan-based nonprofit organizations and is currently Board President of the Michigan Student Power Alliance.
