Bio
Sylvie is a feminist and advocate focused on leveraging technology to advance women's lives. With over three years of experience in technology and two years in advocacy, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from African Leadership University. Sylvie is dedicated to improving the livelihoods of marginalized women, particularly LGBTQIA+ individuals, single and teenage mothers, women experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV), orphaned girls, and homeless women and girls. Currently, as the Communications and IT Officer at Blossom Bridge Initiative (BBI) — a dynamic, women-led Rwandan organization focused on driving inclusion and empowering marginalized women of all diversities — Sylvie plays various roles, including grant proposal writing, managing communication strategies, and overseeing technology solutions. As the youngest of four sisters and a professional in a male-dominated field, Sylvie has witnessed firsthand the social, economic, and workplace challenges women encounter in her community, including gender-based violence, limited access to education and healthcare, and systemic discrimination. These experiences fuel her advocacy efforts, emphasizing the importance of uplifting the voices and rights of marginalized women. She believes that young people play a crucial role in global advocacy spaces, as they bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to longstanding issues. In the face of emerging anti-rights movements, climate crises, and global inaction, young advocates like Sylvie are essential for securing a brighter future for the next generation. Sylvie applied for the Emerging Leaders Program to amplify her impact, learn, and collaborate with other enthusiastic advocates. She envisions using the knowledge and resources gained through the program to create more inclusive initiatives that directly address the needs of marginalized women in her community. By engaging with a network of like-minded leaders, she aims to strengthen her advocacy efforts and contribute to a more equitable society. Through her commitment to empowering women and leveraging technology, Sylvie Kagaba is dedicated to fostering positive change and ensuring that all women, especially marginalized groups, can thrive.
