What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

I am looking for allies to create a global multimedia platform on gender equality issues. Once someone fought for me so I can vote, drive, and even wear pants. But there are still areas we need to fight for such as equal payment or free abortion.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

In my country, street harassment is really common. I worked for the most seen channel in Costa Rica, Televisora de Costa Rica. For International Women’s Day, my department wanted to make the typical girly campaign with flowers. I raised my voice and made them see that we don’t “celebrate” Internationational Women’s Day because we are beautiful. I told them that it is an actual fight and that we should make a campaign asking for respect against sexual harassment instead. After long meetings and discussions, they supported me and we lauched the campaign “Lo que yo quiero es respeto” (What I want is respect). For me, that was a huge win. That campaign was the first time the channel made a pro-women’s rights statement. The most beautiful thing for me was then reading comments on social media where women wrote things like “it is time that we can see the channel talking about this” or girls saying “thank you.” I understood the power of communication and that we need more women behind it to create diverse points of view.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy open water swim, CrossFit, and sports.
