Bio

Ximena Millán was born and raised in Peru. She is currently attending Lycée Franco-Péruvien. Ximena is a member of the mentoring Council of GirlGov Perú 2020.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

Certainly all the news about feminicides and violence against women that we see all the time. Knowing that a girl like you or friends was violated isn't nice at all. Neither is realizing that most people in your country don't even know what their rights are. But if I have to name one specific thing that ignited a pursuit for gender equality, it would be helplessness and the feeling of not be able to do anything to stop it.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

With all the girls of GirlGov Perú 2019, we managed to write a request to the Minister of Education in order to include menstrual health education in the new project of integral sexual education in Peru. After some months, we presented it in person in a meeting with the dialogue office of the Minister. And now, they promised the inclusion of our request in the school curriculum.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

In my spare time, I'm practicing violin and piano. I also like reading, drawing, playing with friends, and talking about politics, music, and everything with my family.
