More people today have been forced to flee their homes than ever before in recorded history, and girls and women are profoundly impacted. But while global rhetoric and tools for gender-sensitive humanitarian action exist, the situation on the ground shows that there is still much to be done.
Women Deliver is proud to bolster its humanitarian advocacy work to secure gender equality and SRHR as a global priority – never an afterthought – in every crisis, everywhere. With generous support from the Government of Canada, our new humanitarian advocacy efforts will contribute what we already do well – convening, communicating, advocating, and partnerships-building – to the growing movement behind gender-sensitive humanitarian action. Here’s how we’re investing internally to be a smarter and more effective advocate for girls and women in emergencies:

When women-focused civil society organizations (CSOs) can influence humanitarian decision-making, resulting policies and programs better meet the needs of girls and women in emergencies and beyond. Using our award-winning Young Leaders Program as a model, we will help strengthen and elevate the voices of women-focused CSOs in emergency contexts, providing the training and opportunities they need to reach global platforms and shape conversations that affect their lives.
Our work to support women-focused civil society organizations in humanitarian settings will kick off later this year. Watch this space for updates!
We will use our voice and our power as a leading gender equality advocate to fuel real and unapologetic action for girls and women who have been forcibly displaced. Whether behind-the-scenes in private meetings or front and center at the world’s most influential forums, we’ll join long-time advocates in pushing for policies, programs, and investments that can advance women’s health, rights, and wellbeing, including their SRHR, in humanitarian settings.
