Larz Gerrand received a $5,000 seed grant from Women Deliver — made possible by Johnson & Johnson — to implement the “SPEAK: Speaker Program for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Knowledge” project, which developed a speaker series in order to increase participants’ knowledge about the state of reproductive rights in Australia, discuss and address some of the barriers to reproductive health care in Australia, and further engage young people in this area of advocacy. Through her project, Larz and her team led two panel-style sessions as well as a full-day workshop to training and engaging young people in advocacy efforts for sexual and reproductive health and rights. In addition to that, the project led to the development of a discussion paper focusing on restrictions on access to safe abortion in Victoria, Australia, which was presented to a working group of CEOs of key organizations and government advisers working in reproductive health.
