Desmond Atanga Ensures Comprehensive Sexuality Education is Institutionalized in Secondary Schools in Cameroon
Desmond Atanga (Class of 2016) used his renewed grant to further ensure that comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) can be institutionalized in secondary schools across Cameroon and reach adolescents. He engaged 199 direct beneficiaries and reached over 800,000 indirect beneficiaries during this grant period. Through 16 meetings with policymakers and four meetings with community leaders, he successfully garnered commitments to push ministries to review the CSE syllabi to be implemented by schools. At least 38 school counselors received training on CSE, as well as four journalists from Cameroon Radio and Television were engaged on CSE and gender stereotypes. The effort raised public awareness through blog posts on the Deserve International website and social media platforms.
