Susanne Legena is the CEO of Plan International Australia, a leading humanitarian organisation dedicated to advancing the rights of children and girls globally. With over 20 years of experience spanning advocacy, government relations, and strategic campaigning, Susanne’s career is defined by a deep commitment to positive social change.
A passionate feminist and devoted champion for young people, Susanne is driven by a belief in our shared humanity. She brings a future-focused approach to tackling complex issues—including poverty, gender inequality, and climate change—using design thinking and systems change methodologies to deliver impactful solutions alongside partners.
Susanne joined Plan International Australia’s executive team in 2011 and was appointed CEO in 2017. In addition to her role at Plan International, she serves as Chair of the Emergency Action Alliance and sits on the board of CommUnity Plus, a community development organisation based in Melbourne’s West.
Previously, Susanne held senior roles in the Victorian Government, including as Chief of Staff to the Minister for Energy, Resources & the Arts, and as Corporate Communications Manager for the Department of Infrastructure. Her professional background reflects a rare combination of public sector leadership, advocacy, and grassroots engagement.
Outside of her professional life, Susanne is a keen nature lover, gardener and enthusiastic beekeeper. She body surfs with the Silver Salties in Anglesea, Victoria.
