Economic independence is something that many girls and women are far from achieving. However, with the correct policies and participation, we can achieve economic independence for all.

Bio

Shalom Muthii was born and raised in Kenya. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Maseno University in 2019. Shalom is Co-founder of Kwachu mentorship, volunteer at Arise Africa Child Foundation, volunteer at Chapati Foundation Festival, and volunteer at Empower Her Initiative.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

Economic independence has not yet been achieved in Kenya, and women are still getting unequal pay. That gap is something I advocate to be filled.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

I organized a ladies meet and greet in 2018 where I hosted four women who lead in their businesses and startups to meet 23 invited women. Those who were present for the session were impacted, and for the last two years, there has been follow up on their projects. Currently, I'm planning for a second meet and greet targeting women and investments.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

Spending time with my family, catching up on my shows.
