"Qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum" means if we want peace, we have to get ready for war. A war of thought, of concepts, of education, of giving youth their place as an important part of building tommorow's world.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

My pursuit for gender equality started when I realized that my success often didn't depend on my competences but on my gender. Day by day, inequalities women suffered from were fuel for my growing wish to avenge them by spreading awareness through education. I made it my life goal to become a success story myself, so nobody can ever tell someone "a simple girl like you cannot make it."

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

My biggest win as an advocate of gender equality is founding a local association for youth where about 80 percent of the members and five of six of the board members are women. This in an effort to increase female participation in civil society, which is relatively low in the national as well as the international community.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

Writing, dancing, and swimming.
