Jyotir Nisha is passionate about conducting workshops to train youth and women on their role in environmental conservation.
Jyotir was born and raised in Nepal. She received a Master of Science degree in Environment and Sustainable Development at the University of Glasgow and studied Industrial Engineering at the Institute of Engineering. As the Country Operations Manager of Raleigh International in Nepal, she is the only member of the senior management team under 30 with a role in strategic planning and decision-making for the organization, managing hundreds of young volunteers every year to carry out sustainable development work across various sectors like Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Sustainable Livelihoods and Natural Resources Management. Additionally, Jyotir worked in the nonprofit sector on projects such as training local women and girls and young people on environmental conservation strategies, sustainable waste management initiatives, and awareness raising trainings and dramas in the schools and communities working with youth organizations. She also worked with local government agencies to design projects addressing environmental challenges and working to find innovative solutions. As an advocate, Jyotir is proud to have been selected as a Chevening Scholar for her commitment to the environment and her community, and to be awarded the Adam Smith Scholar award for her exemplary academic performance during her graduate studies.
To Jyotir, “meaningful youth engagement” means putting young people in positions of power to effect change.
In her free time, Jyotir enjoys traveling to new places and enjoying nature, culture, and food.
