Using Positive Masculinity to Promote Family Planning in Sub-Saharan Africa

share

The unmet need for family planning services in sub-Saharan Africa is partly due to men’s lack of support due to gender norms surrounding masculinity and misconceptions about family planning. To address this, Ammon Otieno (Class of 2018) conducted workshops with men on gender norms and sexual and reproductive health and rights, including family planning. Through community campaigns that engage local stakeholders and workshops that engage male partners, men are gaining more awareness about contraception and family planning. These participants have committed to spreading this new knowledge to their peers.
