In April, Muhammad Ferdaus (Class of 2016) organized a day-long workshop for 120 girls who live and study in Korail slum, a low-income neighborhood in Bangladesh. He engaged the girls and informed them about different opportunities they can pursue to break the cycle of poverty. After the session, he launched a new initiative with his organization Community Development for Peace Foundation (CEPF) to provide year-long “CDPF Incite Award” scholarships for students in need who come from underprivileged backgrounds. All scholarship recipients would receive funds to study for a year in their school. At the end of the month, the U.S. Ambassador in Bangladesh would distribute the scholarship awards to the students, followed up the nominations of these students to enter leadership and training programs in Bangladesh and pursue studies in the U.S. through an exchange program.
