Campaigns Put a Spotlight on Issues of Underage Prostitution and Child Marriage in Zimbabwe

With members of her women-led grassroots organization, Chenai Muchena (Class of 2018) implemented a media and community campaign against underage prostitution and early and child marriage in a marginalized community in Zimbabwe. The campaign sought to raise awareness on the fate of adolescent girls in these communities, and get responsible governing bodies such as the Ministry of Public Services and Social Welfare to forge solutions. Chenai also led small workshops on sexual and reproductive health and sparked discussions on social influences with school girls to better understand their position. The effort successfully helped secure funding for capacity-building projects that would provide financial security for women in vulnerable communities.
