Summary of the Position:

This position will serve as a parental leave cover and provide overall team and project management for the Women Deliver’s General Policy & Advocacy Workstream, which leads Women Deliver’s institutional advocacy on global and maternal health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, women’s rights, women’s economic empowerment, and climate change.

The selected candidate will have strong project management and managerial skills, and provide higher-level support and management of the General P&A work plan to ensure that timelines and deliverables are on track and on target, while also supporting and advancing the work of General P&A team members in designing, executing, and reporting on work plan deliverables. In assuming team management responsibilities, the candidate may also be called on to manage and coordinate team input on longer-term projects like donor proposals/reports and work plan development. The candidate will also help serve an interim deputy role to the Managing Director, Policy & Advocacy, organizing and managing team meetings, coordination across the P&A team work streams, and priority setting within the broader team.

The position reports to the Managing Director, Policy & Advocacy and will have management responsibilities for the Senior Associate(s), Policy & Advocacy and Program Assistant, Policy & Advocacy.


  • General P&A Supervisory role
    • General management and supervision of General P&A team members (2-3 Senior Associates; 1 Assistant) to include regular/weekly 1:1 check-ins to guide ongoing and new work, as well as ad-hoc/direct support to team members, as needed.
    • Liaison role between General P&A team members and Managing Director, P&A team managers, as needed.
  • Project management and coordination for General P&A Team
    • Management and coordination of 2020/2021 General P&A work plan, budget, and associated monitoring and evaluation tracking/reporting—to ensure General P&A team is on-track and making adjustments to meet institutional goals and priorities. (High-level direction by Managing Director).
    • Collaboration, support, and partnership with P&A team members to execute deliverables to ensure work products on track and executed with high quality.
      • Experience working in policy and advocacy related to global and maternal health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, women’s rights, women’s economic empowerment, and/or climate change; experience developing and executing events and webinars; experience interacting with the international development community/managing external consultants to help guide the workstreams of the team.
    • Coordination and management of donor submissions or reporting related to General P&A team work, as needed (with strategy and content directed by Managing Director, P&A).
    • Management and coordination of internal communications and collaboration across Women Deliver teams on behalf of the General P&A Team (liaising with External Relations, Communication, Office of the President, Finance, etc.).
  • Deputy support to P&A Team/ Managing Director, P&A
    • Organization and management of All P&A Team meetings, including maintaining routine scheduling, managing agendas, assessing priorities, assisting in implementation, etc.
    • Organization and management of P&A Team Managers’ meetings, including maintaining routine scheduling, managing agendas, assessing priorities, assisting in implementation, etc.
    • Organization and management of activities/initiatives to foster and maintain P&A team cohesion (celebrations, retreats, brainstorms, feedback sessions, etc.).
    • Assist P&A Assistant priority setting, review timelines, calendar management for Managing Director.
  • Other organizational priorities as they develop.

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • BA/BS required in a related field such as public health, international relations, gender studies, political science, or human rights; Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in an NGO, UN agency, or similar organization.
  • Experience with international development policy and advocacy work with a focus on girls and women, with expertise in at least one of the following areas: global health, maternal health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, pandemic preparedness and response, women’s rights, women’s economic empowerment, and/or climate change.
  • Experience engaging with international development community coalitions and networks.
  • Experience in measurement and analysis of advocacy programs and projects a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, navigating multiple concurrent deadlines in tight timelines.
  • Strong project management, coordination, and managerial experience – including experience leading/managing teams to produce impactful, measurable results on deadline and experience adjusting work plans/deliverables to meet changing needs and realities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising sounds judgment and problem-solving/troubleshooting capabilities, including helping guide/support direct reports through work plan challenges and bottlenecks, and other issues that arise.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures on global health or international development advocacy campaigns, programs, or initiatives.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistently delivering excellent quality work.
  • Ability to design and implement creative, analytical approaches to improve programs and projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without professional sponsorship.
