Summary of the Position:

The Senior Associate, Communications serves as a key member of the Communications Team. The Senior Associate will be instrumental in designing and implementing engaging communications and marketing strategies in the lead-up to — and at — the next Women Deliver’s Conference in 2023 (WD2023). The Senior Associate will play a leading role in developing communications that support the organization’s fundraising strategies, working closely with the Conference & Convenings Team, External Relations Team, and key donors and funding partners. Finally, the Senior Associate will support the Communications Team’s digital marketing and engagement efforts on Women Deliver’s high-reaching digital platforms, including the website and newsletters, and support the Communications Team with digital content creation. Basic graphic design experience is a plus. The Senior Associate will report to the Director of Communications. 



Strategic Communications

  • Leads drafting and copyediting for key editorial pieces, organizational newsletters, and publications.
  • Creates blogs, op-eds, and other content.
  • Develops messaging ahead of key advocacy priorities and policy windows.
  • Drafts, copyedits, and reviews content for digital platforms.
  • Co-creates and executes campaigns around priority milestones and policy windows.
  • Provides detailed proofing support of key external communications across the organization.

Women Deliver Conference (WD2023)

  • Works in close coordination with the Conference & Convenings Team to strategize and implement Conference-related communications in the lead-up, during, and after the next Women Deliver Conference (WD2023).
  • Project manages and supports the refresh of all conference sponsorship communications deliverables (i.e. logo usage, website content, onsite branding, co-created materials) with vendors. 
  • Works closely with Director of Communications and Senior Manager, Conference and Convenings on the Conference Announcement. 
  • Manages and updates the WD2023 website via WordPress 
  • Supports Director of Communications and external Communications Agency with press conference strategy and media matching strategy and onsite execution, and in the selection, coordination, and onsite support of scholarship journalists at the Conference. 
  • Supports Communications Advisory Group with agendas, note-taking, and follow-up and relationships with other communications leads as it relates to the Conference, including taking exploratory meetings, discussing joint products and initiatives, etc. 
  • Works closely across teams on Conference & Convenings communications to ensure integration and support. 
  • Serves as the focal for communications around both Satellite events and the virtual 6-month out programming for the Women Deliver Conference including outreach to media, external announcements, and content for event outreach. 
  • Supports logistics related to WDLive (the Women Deliver Conference digital platform) including design of the physical broadcast studio, determining staff/equipment needs, coordinating and packaging video content, coordinating livestream, speaker prep, and onsite management. 
  • Supports the research, vetting, selection, pricing, design, and ordering of conference merchandise. 
  • Assists with project management of the Conference mobile app, including user experience design, feature development, content upload, testing, and roll-out. 
  • Organizes and attends meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events, as requested. 
  • Contributes to Women Deliver’s organization-wide communications planning efforts, specifically on Conference-related opportunities. 
  • Supports post-Conference surveys, reports, and other publications.

Fundraising & Donor Communications

  • Works in close coordination with the External Relations Team to contribute to and implement donor communications. 
  • Project manages and supports the design and publication of the Annual Report with external vendors. 
  • Supports the development and/or refresh of key fundraising materials.  
  • Supports copyediting and proofing of proposals, donor reports, and other materials. 
  • Creatively features donor and funding partnerships in Women Deliver’s external communications, including the website, social media, and our publications. 


Marketing, Online Engagement, and Content Creation

Website Maintenance & Monitoring (Support)

  • Supports Digital Communications Associate with management and updates of Women Deliver website content on WordPress (includes the main website, Deliver for Good website, and Conference website).
  • Regularly monitors website performance and engagement; suggests adjustments to content, design, and tech.
  • Co-leads Google AdWords Grant account; sets strategy, tests keywords, builds and tests landing pages, manages budget, and adjusts according to performance and organizational goals.

Newsletter (Support)

  • Builds and sends organizational newsletters on MailChimp, particularly those related to the Women Deliver 2023 Conference.
  • Prepares content, liaises with colleagues, suggests A/B tests, follows copyedit and approval processes, publishes on website.
  • Co-creates newsletter growth strategy, including elements of pop-ups, paid ads, etc.
  • Manages various mailing lists.
  • Ensures personal data collection follows GDPR and other best practices.

Design (Support)

  • Support basic design needs, through Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite, such as updating existing materials and creating graphics for social media and the website.

Social Media (Support)

  • Works closely with the Digital Communications Associate to generate content and campaigns for social media accounts, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Assists with creative social media campaigns including Twitter chats, social media takeovers, Instagram Live conversations, hashtag launches, quizzes, contests, etc.
  • Assists in social media toolkit creation and dissemination.



  • Supports project plans, timelines, and budgets. 
  • Organizes and attends meetings, briefings, conferences, and other events, as requested. 
  • Supervises interns and consultants, as needed. 
  • Contributes to Women Deliver’s organization-wide transformation efforts to become an organization rooted in anti-racist and anti-colonial principles. 


Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • BA/BS required in a related field such as communications, journalism, international affairs, public health, human rights, or gender studies.
  • 4-6 years of strategic communications experience (agency or digital marketing experience is a plus). 
  • Experience with communications related to conferences and/or large events.  
  • Expertise in sexual and reproductive health and rights issues and gender equality is a plus. 
  • Proven ability to effectively project manage multiple communications projects with internal and external teams.
  • Experience with WordPress and MailChimp.  
  • Basic graphic design skills using Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite.  
  • Proven ability to work effectively with communications consultants and vendors on creative outputs across multiple platforms. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong project coordination skills.
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and work. 
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistently delivering excellent-quality work. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems. 
  • Commitment to working with humility with advocates across the world, many from historically marginalized groups. 
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, if needed. 
  • International language skills, particularly Spanish, French, and Arabic, are a plus. 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
