Salary: $130,000-$150,000 + Full Benefits

Summary of the Position:

The Director, External Relations, position is a year contract role with the possibility to convert to a full-time employee. This position will report to the President and CEO and oversee the organization’s priority to build and increase funding, working in close partnership with the Senior Manager, External Relations, and work in collaboration with focal points from across program teams, as well as finance & administration and legal affairs. The Director role year-long contract will also cover a parental leave period from October 2022 – February 2023.

This is an especially exciting time at Women Deliver, as we are in a replenishment period, fundraising for our 2021-2025 Strategic Framework, as well as actively mobilizing resources through grants and sponsorship for the Women Deliver 2023 Conference (WD2023).  The Director role will work to strengthen the organization’s ability to engage with and support prospective and current partners across all funding streams, with an emphasis on ODA governments and foundations.

The Director will lead on all pitching, funding submissions, and stewardship efforts for all donor relationships, with an emphasis on core and programmatic multi-year support. In addition to mobilizing resources for Women Deliver’s ongoing programs, the Director will work with the Senior Manager to secure and steward grants and sponsorships for the Women Deliver 2023 Conference. Key milestones for this position during the year contract include securing increased sponsorship and conference funding ahead of our UNGA WD2023 Event (September 2022); planning and carrying out a European Donor tour with the President and CEO (October 2022); project managing institutional donor reporting and stewardship throughout; as well as planning and implementing WD2023 from an External Relations perspective (through to July 2023).

Accountabilities:

  • Provide day to day stewardship of key institutional partners
  • Manage processes for all pitching and submissions (including concept notes, proposals, and reports), while ensuring multi-team processes are efficient, inclusive, and timely (this work will be carried out with the support of the Senior Manager, External Relations, a high-level consultant, and in close collaboration with program focal points)
  • Engage with funding partners through all phases of the funding cycle and represent the organization as needed at meetings, conferences, events, etc.
  • Lead the mapping of partners’ areas of interest, programs and priorities and develop cross-cutting frame or lenses that aligns these interests with the Women Deliver strategic framework
  • Track funding gaps and, with support of communications focal point, develop compelling and targeted collateral to promote and clearly outline funding opportunities
  • Work with all program teams, using a program quality framework, to determine areas of investment within Women Deliver
  • Working with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning focal point, and with consultant support, to support the development and implementation of Results Based Management Frameworks in close collaboration with program teams
  • Support efforts to build the capacity of program staff in program design, management, and stewardship against program quality principles
  • Draft correspondence for partners from the CEO and support overall engagement efforts
  • Support the development of budgets, financial reports, and other key materials
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • 10-12 years of work experience in globally focused non-profits or multilateral agencies in fundraising
  • Proven successful track record in institutional fundraising, including securing major funding streams from ODA governments and large foundations
  • Strong experience in leading donor pitching
  • Understanding of international development required, experience in fundraising for gender equality advocacy (or related area) highly preferred
  • Experience working in building results-based management frameworks and theory of change principles
  • Experience with high-net-worth individuals, private philanthropy, and family offices preferred
  • Experience in establishing and implementing ongoing stewardship programs and working in collaboration with program staff to execute
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Excellent attention to detail and excellence in project management required
  • Ability to thrive in high profile environments supporting key program ambassadors, dignitaries, and other honored people with maturity and discretion
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and conduct work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and a track record of consistently delivering high-quality work
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and resourcefulness in solving problems
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Word and Excel, familiarity with Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally, if needed
