Bio
Miriam advocates for gender equality in her community with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Over the years, she has worked with girls who have suffered from abuse, dropped out of school due to unwanted pregnancies, and struggled as caregivers in their households. Miriam applied to the Emerging Leaders Program to enable her to educate girls in her community about their rights and SRHR. She also wants to educate her community on the importance of girls’ education so that they can become allies for her cause. She aspires to create a community where girls have bodily autonomy, there are fewer cases of unintended teenage pregnancies, and girls can complete their education and unlock work opportunities. Lastly, she aims to influence the mindsets of men to hold girls in higher regard and value them within her community.
