Just as it is very important to work on gender equality on a large scale, it is also necessary to notice smaller, local groups. Every little change is a win.

Bio

Kateryna (Kati) Korniienko was born and raised in Ukraine. She received a Bachelor of Sociology from Zaporizhzhya National University in 2019. Kati is a volunteer at Ukrainian Network of Women Using Drugs and Consultant Translator at Hope and Trust.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

Growing up in a family of strong women and having a human rights activist as your mother, you have no other chance but to be inspired by them. From a very young age, I knew I would follow her steps and continue to advocate for women's rights, safety, and dignity.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

My biggest achievement yet is research that I conducted in 2019 in an attempt to assess social exclusion that women who use drugs face trying to get medical help. This data has been used to improve the work of the National HotLine and as a background for future advocacy projects.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and cooking.
