Bio

John Martin (Kijo) Bugembe was born and raised in Uganda. He received a post-graduate diploma in monitoring and evaluation from Uganda Management Institute in 2020. Kijo is a volunteer at Christ the King Senior School Nabbingo.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

My country is driven by male patriarchy and not accommodating to members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope to be a voice for the voiceless.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

I have worked on the early grade reading assessment exercise for a number of years, which facilitates girls’ early childhood development. I have also worked under the Girl’s Education Challenge Project, helping children, specifically girls, with disabilities access education.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

Travel, sports, charity work, and cooking.
