Bio

Darshana Rijal is a young social leader from Nepal. She engages in advocacy and activism at the grass-root level against the root causes of gender violence, and works closely with poor and marginalized communities in rural areas of Nepal on addressing gender-based violence.

What ignited your pursuit for gender equality?

The way that society allows gender inequality to persist made me want to change the situation and fight for equality.

Please share your biggest wins as an advocate for gender equality.

I conducted three Small Grant projects in Nepal and worked with local and federal governments addressing the need for policy change and program initiations. All these three projects brought a sustainable change. I worked as a peer researcher in research about Comprehensive Sexual Education in Nepal. Engaged in speaking activities at events like Generation Equality Forum side events and am also a part of YOUNGA 2021 cohort.

Outside of your gender equality advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

I enjoy reading books, listening to music, learning to code, and traveling.
