Bio
Amy is a 17-year-old student enthusiastic about advocating for gender equality, equity, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). She is dedicated to advancing social justice, gender justice, and climate justice, focusing on empowering young people, particularly adolescents and young girls in and out of school. By promoting SRHR, Amy helps young people make informed decisions about their bodies and lives, leading to healthier and more fulfilling futures. Her advocacy is driven by the belief that promoting gender equality, equity, and SRHR not only prevents violence, abuse, and discrimination against adolescents and young people but also creates safer, more inclusive environments for all. After witnessing the devastating effects of mudslides in Bududa District, which left many displaced and living on the streets of Mbale City, Amy made it her mission to support marginalized communities affected by climate crises. Through her involvement with Chapter for Empowerment and Rights Uganda (CERU), she provides essential items such as sanitary pads, clothing, and soap to displaced women and girls, while offering education on sexual harassment and self-care. Amy also helps connect them to safe accommodation and health support, aiding their recovery after climate-induced disasters. Amy believes young people play a vital role in global advocacy, bringing fresh views and innovation to key issues like climate change and gender-transformative initiatives. She applied for the Emerging Leaders Program to strengthen her advocacy skills and expand her impact, with a vision of empowering more adolescents and young people to take action and contribute to creating a more just and equitable society.
