Nefertiti Martin (Class of 2018) designed and co-facilitated a “Supporting Queer and Trans Survivors of Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence” training for advocates at the Riley Center in San Francisco, CA on behalf of Community United Against Violence (CUAV). This training aimed to familiarize participants with common language related to LGBTQI identities and communities, increase awareness of barriers to accessing services for LGBTQ survivors, and develop trauma-informed tools to support survivors’ self-determination. Through this training, participants gained the tools to be more aware of addressing LGBTQI people, to be supportive of domestic violence survivors, and be able to use CUAV as a resource to refer survivors in the future.
