Onward Chironda, a Women Deliver Young Leader from Zimbabwe, was awarded a $5,000 seed grant from Women Deliver — made possible by Johnson & Johnson, to implement “The Girls Choose Project,” which raised awareness of child, early, and forced marriages and created an enabling environment for the elimination of child, early, and forced marriages in Masvingo Urban and Chivi Districts of Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Through his project, Onward led a training with 22 community representatives across sectors, all of whom have experience working with young people, which aimed to educate stakeholders on legal concepts surrounding child marriages. Participants are now better able to interpret laws and policies that govern issues of child marriage and child protection and identify gaps within the laws.
