Ola Abagun’s Documentary Sheds Light on Sexual Violence in Nigeria and Calls for Justice

Ola Abagun (Class of 2016), Founder and Executive Director of Girls Pride Circle, produced a film titled, “Echoes of Hope.” This 9-minute documentary elevates the voices of 16 adolescent girls and young women, including survivors of sexual violence. It draws a spotlight on the harsh reality of sexual violence in Nigeria, where only 8 percent of reported rape cases lead to convictions. The documentary calls on Nigerian authorities   to accelerate efforts to secure justice for survivors and prevent sexual violence. By the end of 2017, 11,000 individuals had seen the film, including 70 high-level officers of the Lagos State Police Command.
