Musu Bakoto Sawo (Class of 2018) conducted a training with law enforcement officers on female genital mutilation (FGM) and other gender-based violence (GBV) issues to give them a broader understanding of FGM ranging from the religious misconceptions of FGM, the sociocultural motivations behind the practice, and most importantly, the health implications of FGM and GBV. This training served as a useful tool for law enforcement officers in The Gambia because legal frameworks protecting women’s rights are often not covered and widely known.
