Musu Bakoto Sawo (2018) organized a forum to sensitize young couples on the socio-cultural misconceptions related to FGM and the adverse consequences of the practice, so they are empowered to protect their daughters. The forum also enhanced the young couples’ knowledge on the anti-FGM law in an effort to order gain greater adherence to the law. Musu Bakoto served as a resource person and trainer at the forum, where she addressed the couples on harmful traditional practices as a form of violence against women; the international, regional, and domestic legal framework on FGM; the laws protecting women and girls from violence and discrimination in the Gambia; and SRHR. She also trained couples on how to manage conflicts and resist social pressures to perform FGM.
