During the Global Adolescent Health Conference in Ottawa, Canada, Joannes Paulus Yimbesalu spoke during a plenary session entitled “The Role of Positive Masculinities in Addressing Gender Inequality.” The session explored positive masculinities in addressing social and cultural norms that perpetrate inequality and the role of men and boys to be part of the solution in addressing gender inequality, including gender-based violence. Moderated by Terry Duguid, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Status of Women, Joannes and other young male speakers from around the world explored transforming attitudes and behaviors around gender equality and violence in their own countries and communities. Joannes, who has spoken out at He for She and other fora about men’s role in fighting for gender equality, spoke to challenges and best practices in making men and boys champions of women’s and girl’s issues that are everyone’s issues.
