ABOUT THE PROJECT

Female Genital Cutting (FGC) is still widely practiced among many groups in Nigeria. This project aims to fill gaps left by the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) of 2015 through advocacy, community mobilization, and digital media efforts. The goals are to achieve widespread awareness of VAPP throughotu Nigeria and to ensure its enforcement in incidents of FGC in Esan West, Edo State, Nigeria.

Isaac has over five years of experience working in health promotion, maternal and child health care provision, and family planning. He currently volunteers as a program officer at the Women Health and Action Research Centre doing monitoring and evaluation. He also works as the Assistant Managing Editor at the African Journal of Reproductive Health. Isaac holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Physiology from the University of Benin, Nigeria. He also completed his Masters of Science degree in Applied Health Social Science from the School of Public Health, University of Ghana, where he was named the top student in his graduating cohort. While working as a Medical Secretary for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Medical Department of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited (PPMC/NNPC), a subsidiary of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation after graduation, he volunteered as UNICEF Peer Educator under the National Reproductive Health HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care Project in Northern Nigerian. He then worked as a community health officer at Joy Maternity Clinic, Edo state, Nigeria where he played an active role in providing community members with health education and social support. During this period, he enrolled in an online program and earned a Clinical Research and Public Health Certificate from the Harvard School of Public Health and then a certificate in the Challenges of Global Poverty from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
