Health and Climate Change – Don’t Forget Girls and Women

share

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the government of France are hosting the Second Global Conference on Health and Climate in Paris 7-8 July under the headline: “Building Healthier Societies through implementation of the Paris Agreement.”

This is a great opportunity to remind the world and shine the light on the connection between gender equality, health, and climate change.

It is well recognized that girls and women are the hardest hit and bear the brunt of climate change, whether we talk about indoor air pollution, lack of nutrition and water, increased morbidity and mortality due to heat waves, floods, storms, fires, and droughts. At the same time, women are the world’s best bet in the fight for a clean, healthy, and sustainable planet. They are the mitigators, the everyday innovators, the first responders.

Women Deliver encourages WHO and the participants in the conference to strongly include the important gender dimension in the conference discussions, outreach, and outcomes. And we encourage everyone to remind them via social media.
